Suvarna Karnataka Kerala Samajam – Bangalore East Zone

THIRUVATHIRA CELEBRATION

The Thiruvathira Celebration at SKKS Bangalore East Zone was a vibrant and graceful cultural gathering that brought together members of the community to celebrate one of Kerala’s most cherished traditional festivals. Thiruvathira is a festival deeply rooted in Kerala’s cultural heritage and is mainly celebrated by women with devotion, joy, and traditional rituals.

Thiruvathira is observed on the Thiruvathira star during the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December–January). The festival symbolizes devotion, harmony, and the celebration of womanhood. Traditionally, women dress in beautiful Kerala attire and perform the elegant Thiruvathirakali dance, moving rhythmically in circles around a traditional lamp, singing devotional songs dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

This year, the Thiruvathira Celebration by SKKS Bangalore East Zone Ladies Wing was held on January 3rd, creating a memorable cultural experience for all participants and attendees. The event was organized with great enthusiasm by the Ladies Wing of Suvarna Karnataka Kerala Samajam (SKKS) Bangalore East Zone, who played a key role in bringing the spirit of Kerala traditions to life.

The celebration began with the lighting of the traditional lamp, symbolizing positivity and unity. Members of the Ladies Wing participated in the traditional Thiruvathirakali dance, dressed in elegant Kerala sarees, performing gracefully to traditional songs. Their synchronized movements and joyful expressions beautifully reflected the cultural richness of Kerala.
